So proud of these stained glass designs! We've been learning all about freeform shapes in class. Freeform shapes often mimic natural forms, so we identified some examples of places we can see freeform shapes in nature. Henri Matisse is an artist who used lots of organic shapes in his artwork, especially in his stained glass at the Chapelle du Rosaire de Vence. We looked at his artwork in class and discussed examples of his use of organic shapes.

Students then designed their own “stained glass” on a transparency sheet. They drew freeform shapes on one side of the sheet, flipped it over, and colored in their shapes. The true magic happens when sunlight streams through their paper and projects their colors all around the room. There's nothing more precious than the gasps of delight as these young artists held their design up to the window for the first time!
